Government is one step closer to striking a deal with Sandals on the proposed Sandals and Beaches Resort for Tobago.

But Minister of National Security and Communications, Stuart Young, says terms and conditions of an agreement have not yet been confirmed.

Minister Young led a meeting with Sandals Executives at the Office of the Prime Minister in Port-of-Spain. Speaking at a news conference afterward, he said an MOU signed between the two parties will be released to the media.

He said specifics regarding the arrangement are still being negotiated. Also speaking at the news conference, Sandals CEO, Adam Stewart, highlighted the benefits Sandals promises to bring to Tobago.

Sandals ability to Market Tobago is one of the many areas, he said, from which the island can benefit.

He said at present, very few people know destination Tobago.

Meanwhile, Sandals promises to bring 70,000 to 80,000 visitors per year with an economic impact of US$80 million.

These were some of the benefits highlighted by Sandals Group Deputy Chairman, Adam Stewart, at a joint media conference on Wednesday at the Office of the Prime Minister in St. Clair.

Karen Cozier-Phillip reports.
