Photos by Tom Blackman from a trip to sea on May 7 2010 off San Diego. Following account writtenby Dave Povey: This is the results of our Friday pelagic. Was a touch slow, but a few goodies. Ashy and Leach's Storm Petrels just inside the 30 Mile Bank. A few Rhino. Auklets left. Kelp Patties had loafing Common, Least and Elegant Terns. Elegant Terns, Pacific Loons, and Red-necked Phalaropes were the most abundant bird species of the day. Xantus' and Cassin's seen. On the Marine mammals front we had a Guadalupe Fur Seal at 15 miles. Only the third I've seen in San Diego waters. We also had a great show with a large pod of Bottle-nosed Dolphin. Two animals appeared to be "fighting" going nose to nose in a mid air ballet. Tom has some GREAT shots! Upcoming pelagic birding and marine mammal adventures from San Diego: www.socalbirding.com
