Romanian coach Petre Gigiu aims to take Churchill Bros to the top of I-League 2018-19 despite the Varca-based club being in rebuilding phase after having finished in the relegation zone last season. However, such a feat is not unseen in the I-League as Salgaocar FC had tasted glory in the 2010-11 season after being relegated in their previous campaign. Aizawl FC found themselves in a similar position as Churchill did last year, but showed remarkable resolve in bouncing back by clinching the coveted I-League silverware in 2016-17 against all odds. If Churchill were in need of more motivation, the success of Salgaocar and Aizawl as underdogs in the respective seasons, should boost the morale of the Red Machines and their fans.
