How do we as Christians respond to seasons of spiritual dryness? Professor of Christian Formation and Ministry Dr. David Setran shares of his own experiences with lack of desire to partake in fellowship with the Savior. Despite an adolescence of committed spirituality and devotion to God, Dr. Setran experienced a loss of Christian vitality during his junior year at Wheaton. Discrediting a vision of God as a "cosmic vending machine"—distributing good feelings in return for pious practices—he shows how times of dryness can be a special yet painful part of God's work in our lives. Drawing from the book of Psalms, Dr. Setran offers four helpful postures for those struggling with spiritual dryness: 1) maintain a habit of talking to God, 2) remind yourself of God's goodness and faithfulness, 3) take advantage of the community of believers, and 4) put your hope in God alone.
