Ice Fishing Montana's Sweetgrass Hills

On a recent scouting trip to check how thick the ice was in North Central Montana's Sweetgrass Hills we brought along a few rods to see if we could catch a trout, or two, before riding our snowmobiles back to the car. It was still early winter and we were surprised to be welcomed by nearly three feet of ice. With only a few hours of daylight left we didn't have time to film a complete episode of Pautzke Outdoors, but were able to mold Rainbow and Chartreuse Garlic Fire Bait on the hooks of a few jigs and catch several pan-size rainbow trout right away.
