Senate Bill 119 would create medical review panels to review maltreatment cases involving nurses, physicians, hospitals, and long-term care facilities. Sponsor Sen. Julie Denton (R-Louisville) says the measure would keep more physicians in the state and lower medical costs by reducing litigation. Attorney Larry Forgy represents about a dozen nursing homes. He criticized attorneys including Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo and out-of-state law firms that recruit plaintiffs for malpractice suits.
