Asked about the album title, Peach van Pletzen said: "I have decided to call the album 'Formative Years' because it best summarizes this portion of my work." "My work is constantly changing, that is almost the very essence of YP. It is where I can explore my own creativity and passion for different styles of music and production. I do whatever interests me at the time. So all my albums are extremely different from one another.

Over the years van Pletzen has produced & collaborated with the likes of Van Coke Kartel, Haezer, Jack Parow, Death By Misadventure, Tumi Molekane (from Tumi and the Volume), Isochronous and his other side project Bittereinder.

Yesterday's Pupil has also shared the stage with the Black Eyed Peas, Die Antwoord, Fokofpolisiekar, John Legend, Shakira, Alicia Keys, Desmond and the Tutus and Blk Jks and performed at festivals like Oppikoppi, Woodstock, KKNK, Aardklop and Ramfest amongst others.
