ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Crowds of shoppers filled stores around Asheville on the last weekend before Christmas. This year, the National Retail Federation predicted a bigger year for holiday sales. So far, retailers have a little catching up to do. Black Friday didn't pack the punch it did last year. With several billion fewer shoppers spending money, sales were slightly down this year. A survey from the NRF shows more people are waiting until later in the month to get their holiday shopping done. "Yesterday, we were packed pretty much from open to close. We were handling it. It was great," Josh Todd, General Manager at Best Buy, said. Super Saturday, the last Saturday for shopping before Christmas, was predicted to make up a lot of that lost revenue. Economists say more retailers will roll out bigger deals this weekend to entice shoppers. "We've probably got the fullest ad that we've had since Black Friday," Todd explains. This year, consumers have some factors on their side. Lower gas prices are expected to encourage crowds to spend a little more on the holidays. ShopperTrak has predicted Super Saturday shoppers have already beat out numbers from Black Friday, spending about $10 billion. Black Friday's sales amounted to just more than $9 billion. _______________ Follow WLOS on social media: WLOS ABC 13 News on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/News13/ WLOS ABC 13 News on Twitter: https://twitter.com/WLOS_13 WLOS ABC 13 News on Instagram: https://instagram.com/wlos_13 Subscribe to WLOS on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/ABC13Channel/?sub_confirmation=1 Listen to AnchorMOMS, the Podcast: https://wlos.com/news/anchormoms/anchormoms-the-podcast Watch more top local news stories: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk8Ge6UXHJs&list=PLkVbaoT-aYbIvnEpR0Ct5QQQqYaORUSUH For all of the day’s top local and national news, visit http://www.wlos.com Watch our live newscasts and other live video at https://wlos.com/watch Have a news tip?
