Much of how we experience life, joy, success, and getting the things we want come from the way we perceive life.

Hello, Challenge came from my perspective on life challenges that we all inevitably experience. Many people speak as if they want to avoid challenges, obstacles, and "hard stuff" at all costs as if that will make life better.

I believe that looking at this a different way and inviting, even seeking challenge creates a much more rewarding life, and gets us more of what we want.

For the last decades I've sought out competitive greatness, which Jon Wooden defined as..

"A real love for the hard battle, knowing it offers the opportunity to be at your best when your best is required."

The greatest competitors I have played for, with, coached, and admired have shard a joy derived from the struggle itself - the journey, the contest. They've done it because only in that supreme effort there is an opportunity to summon your best, a personal greatness that cannot be diminished, dismissed, or denied because of a final score or bottom line.

Competitive greatness is not defined by victory nor denied by defeat. It exists in the effort that precedes those two "impostors" as well as their accomplices: fame, fortune, and power - measurements of success I rejected long ago.

There is nothing tiresome about the saying "When the going gets tough, the tough get going". I make it a focus to live it and teach it to others I lead and coach throughout my life.

At the exact moment when the going get tough, the challenge, the thrill of competition gets going for a leader that has the virtue of Competitive Greatness.

I believe this is one of the most important concepts you can teach, a love for the hard battle, and the test it provides against any worth opponent. In fact, when you define success this way, the only thing to fear is your own unwillingness to make the full, 100 percent effort to prepare and perform at the highest level of your ability. A leader that is a great competitor teaches the team/organization the same thing.

This goes for any area of life too, from fitness, business, mindset, relationships, etc..

When you have achieved Competitive Greatness, you have arrived at the top, prepared to bring out the best in yourself and your team. You are ready for whatever the battle, the challenge, brings.

The struggle itself, the test, is what gives value to the prize and is something the competitive leader truly revels in. It is your responsibility to pass this on to those under your leadership.

So...
