'Today is D-Day' says mission commander as cave rescue begins

The evacuation of the 12 stranded school boys from a flooded cave in Thailand is underway, the commander of the rescue operation confirmed this morning. The extraction team began the dangerous operation at 10am local time and the families of the missing boys have been informed. All of the youngsters and their 25-year-old coach are expected to be out of the cave by late this evening – if everything goes according to plan, Governor Narongsak told reporters this morning.
