Dawson: Honk if you love silence

A civilized and peaceful society requires some ground rules beyond just laws – unwritten codes of conduct that make the day hum along smoothly and are really more guidelines than rules, justifiably broken on occasion. But they should be adhered to in most instances, in order to be a good citizen, neighbour and all-around nice human being. Now, street noise isn’t much of a problem in the winter, because my windows aren’t open. But now they are, as it gets warmer. Which means, most mornings, I’m awakened by either someone honking a vehicle’s horn in the early hours or, as a corollary, my puppy barking at said honking. Both of these are, if you’ve never experienced them, not the most pleasant ways to be wrenched from sleep’s warm cocoon. Video by Tony Caldwell/Postmedia
