Two men are behind bars after being accused of murder and trying to cover it up.
It all started early February when someone living on Verbena Street near Edinburg made the gruesome discovery of a man shot once in the head.
Just weeks after that discovery, Alfredo Cisneros is charged with the murder of Oscar Trevino.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino said Cisneros was always two steps ahead of them, but it was a chance encounter with Mission Police Department that finally put him in their hands.
Cisneros was caught exchanging weapons with two other men outside of Foy's Supermarket in Mission.
One of those weapons, a 9mm assault rifle, turned up missing from the Pharr Police Department inventory locker.
"It's possible that that weapon could be the murder weapon but we won't know that until we get the results of the ballistics and that could take another 30 days." said Sheriff Lupe Trevino.
Pharr P.D. did acknowledge the issue and said they are implementing new procedures to make sure something like this doesn't happen again.
As for Arturo Cuellar Jr., he was charged with tampering with evidence for allegedly cleaning out the Dodge Durango the men were driving at the time of the murder.
Sheriff Trevino said they are still looking for a few more people believed to be involved in this murder.
Cisneros was given a $1 million bond and Cuellar, who was charged with tampering with evidence, was given a $250,000 bond.
