Femke Halsema is a Dutch opinion leader who has gained praise for being strongly independent and intellectual. During her years as a Member of Parliament, as a national politician and leader of the Dutch Green Party, she is recognized as extremely influential in the public and political debate; a staunch advocate for liberal, human and women's rights. She has a large network in the public and the private sector and is considered pragmatic, decisive and hands-on.

After deciding to quit Dutch politics in January 2011, she has started to build a new, politically independent career in the Academia, in writing and making programs for television and in consultancy in the private and the public sector. Although she has a broad field of expertise, her main interests are the sustainable development of second and third world economies, the significance of modern media technology and social media (especially on human rights and democracy) and the appearance of modern, popular culture in films, literature and in the public debate.
