2018 Service Awards Robin Mueller, nurse practitioner Celebrating 40 years “My name is Robin Mueller. I’m a nurse practitioner. I started in 1978 as an RN in the hospital. I tell a lot of my friends that I’ve been here longer than most of the buildings, because the only buildings that were here were the old research building, the hospital building and the convalescent hospital. And when we came from nursing school to apply for a position, there was a little white house up the street by the south garage that held human resources and the director of nursing actually lived there. And they brought her down. We didn’t fill out any paperwork at all. And she asked us what nursing school we went to. We told her we went to Good Samaritan, and she hired all six of us on the spot. We did have such a small community, originally, and I knew all the nursing staff, all the medical staff, all the lab staff. One of the lab people here did my pregnancy test when I was pregnant the first time. So you knew everybody, and you could ask anything of them and they would do anything for you. But it’s really massive now, so much different than when I first started here. It’s kind of amazing. We’re #1 in the country for cancer. And I think about what we were like when I first started here. There were a lot of dedicated people back then. But it was, I would never have thought that we would come this far to where we are today.”
