My first Murray cod caught fly fishing

What a memorable moment in my fishing life it was when I caught my very first Murray cod on a fly rod earlier this week. I had already caught a lovely trout cod which was also a first, but the real target was Murray cod. 
Before Christmas I scored myself a Redington 8wt fly rod with RIO pike/musky line and a handful of flies from Pip Clement in Shepparton and set out on a mission! 
 It sure has been a mission too let me tell you.  I went fly fishing for Murray cod with my great mate Brett Corker last week and managed to hook and lose 5 cod. I did not land a single fish!
 Being that Murray cod are a very large bodied fish, I figured the 6lb leader which I was using was probably not ideal, so bedore heading out this time I purchased some 30lb Maxima Ultragreen monofilament fishing line, which in my opinion is the best fishing line on the market. 
 I also received a few pointers on how to strip strike, rather than lift my rod tip. 
 By taking the advice of some great fly fisherman, who have landed Murray cod on fly themselves, this time I was a bit better armed and managed to land these two different cod species, and best of all, my first Murray cod on fly.
