On September 21, 2018 a new law was passed to make it FREE to FREEZE (or unfreeze) your credit with the 3 credit agencies: Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. In the past it cost $3 - $15 per agency to do so. Freezing your credit score can help prevent identity theft and fraud. With data breeches on the rise, it's a good idea to freeze your (and your KIDS!) credit. Additionally, it could help prevent YOU from opening on the spot credit cards, impulse buying a new car, truck or minivan. It's a win-win in my book. Thumbs UP if you've frozen YOUR credit. A credit freeze prevents creditors from accessing your credit report, according to the Federal Trade Commission. It prevents new credit cards, loans and services from being approved in your name without your consent. It does not affect your credit score. If you need a credit check to rent an apartment or get a mortgage, you can lift the freeze. Just keep in mind it'll take around 3 business days.
