With average luck, hunting for rupees may be around 5 to 10 seconds slower than a perfect moblin skip...but how often do you get a perfect skip?  And if you get above average luck, this could be significantly faster.  

However, the rupee route prefers to steal only one set of bombs, so if you are afraid of not having enough, you could lose an additional 15 seconds to steal another pair.  

Also, if you don't want to wait around for the monkey to throw his coconuts, you could ssba early and cut some grass and bushes between the shop and trendy game and hope to get lucky there (a charged sword will cut 8 tiles of potential cash).  I usually do that when I get 3 or less rupees before getting to the monkey, or if the monkey is not giving out a good rupee pattern (since if the run has to die, might as well give it one last attempt to revive itself).  Either way, I end up entering the SHOP roughly around 1:57 every time on average using this route.
