First, I do not endorse fighting from the guard in MMA as a strategic position. It's one of the last places you want to be if given the choice. I'm saying that having won professional fights from the guard (I'm actually pretty dang good at fighting from there) HOWEVER, the MMA strategy I always recommend is to be the guy on top. It's a much, easier, much safer, and much quicker way to win a fight.

That being said: this video is just a quick demonstration of how to use open guard posture control to prevent your opponent from striking you while at the same time creating openings to improve your position and counter with submission techniques.

I have seen countless fights where fighters were content to lie on their backs playing double wrist control in their guard. Even when victorious, these guys would take an average of 30 direct hits to the head while attempting to submit their opponent. After suffering a compound skull fracture and multiple concussions from fighting, I've learned to appreciate techniques that maximize results and minimize damage. Double wrist control is great for sport BJJ, but it's a recipe for head trauma in Mixed Martial Arts.

Control your opponent's posture and stick to their arms like glue to prevent them from mounting and effective offense.
