Jefferson Township Business Catches Fire

DAYTON -- A family-run outdoor equipment store in Jefferson Township caught on fire Sunday morning. Fire officials say there's around 50,000 in damages.It wasn't just fire fighters that showed up to Paul's Outdoor Power Equipment Shop after a fire broke out around nine a.m. though. Nearly a hundred neighbors and customers came to help the owner clean out damaged lawn mowers, tractors and equipment."We had neighbors and customers anywhere from five miles away who showed up, pulling equipment, getting stuff moved around and helping," said Paul Shearer, owner.Inside the garage was oil and gasoline, making it a bit more difficult for crews.The fire started on the northeast corner of the building, but investigators don't know exactly what sparked it yet. "The whole back corner was on fire." said Jefferson Township Fire Chief, Joe Hosack.Despite the damage, Shearer says his shop will be open for business tomorrow."We may be running the computers off a generator, trying to figure out who we have to call and who we don't, but we'll be here Monday," said ShearerDespite the damage, Shearer is keeping his head up."No use crying about it," he said.Shearer has already posted a sign thanking all those who helped him pick up the pieces.
