So Michael Bay's fourth Transformers movie made boatloads of cash over the weekend, cementing the series' status as one of the most lucrative film franchises in Hollywood history. But it's hard to completely ignore the growing choir of naysayers who complain that Bay is merely doing more of the same... and doing it for punishingly long stretches of time. In her review of Transformers: Age of Extinction, our own Kristy Puchko notes that Michael Bay's latest sequel is "bloated with plotlines, characters, and action sequences that push its running time to 165 minutes of nonsensical madness." It doesn't have to be this way. And in today's Monday Movie Memo, I argue that the only way for Michael Bay to save the Transformers franchise is to hand it off to a different director for the series can benefit from an infusion of fresh blood.
