I wanted to know if different fireworks materials would burn in a vacuum. So I tried some, with varying results. The materials will be ignited by firing a 1.25W 445nm laser through the glass vacuum jar. First up was a small flare called a firecrackler. The laser disintegrated its fuse, and would not light the powder by burning through the side of the flare. The flare lit easily by laser once removed from vacuum. Red star balls did very well in the vacuum. Gray firecracker fuse only smouldered. A homemade KNO3 and coffee filter paper fuse did burn fairly well. I'll try other fireworks materials sometime.
