A 32-year-old man was killed while working on a rubber plantation near the Batang Gadis National Park in the Mandailing Utara district of North Sumatra. His body was found by the villagers less than a mile from the plantation, while his head was discovered hours later. The head and the body were covered in claw lacerations. The tiger was earlier seen roaming in the area. Although the endangered species is protected by law, fearful farmers have asked authorities to shoot the tiger. According to the World Wildlife Fund, Sumatran tigers live only on that island and number fewer than 400 in the wild.
