Senior LIGO astrophysicist, gravitational waves expert and Northwestern University professor Vicky Kalogera traveled to Washington, D.C., to appear on a global panel Oct. 16, 2017 to announce the first neutron star collision ever observed. Kalogera was one of only a few people chosen to represent the LIGO collaboration, which consists of more than 1,000 members around the world.
