Duncan McDuie-Ra’s recent work documents some of the most important social and economic changes in contemporary India - Internal migration, urbanisation and the effect of conflict on cities and their people. He looks at the interaction of people from India’s contested border regions with the Indian heartland and what this reflects about their changing aspirations and India’s place in the world. In particular he focuses on cities in conflict affected areas, post conflict cities, and newly planned cities being retrofitted with ICT, or so-called ‘smart cities’. He has also worked on urban migration from the border regions to Delhi and has done collaborative work on intellectual property and urban space in Southeast Asia.
