100 Day AT Thru Hike: Day 16:- Rice Gap to Erwin, TN

I started the day just before Rice Gap mm 314 and was determined to get to Erwin. It was hard for me to get out of bed as I still felt really tired when I looked at the clock and it was 630a. With it getting harder and harder to wake up early lately, I knew it was defiantly time for a zero. 

I didn't get on the trail till about 8am which I knew would make for a long day as Erwin is just over 28 miles from camp. It took me awhile to get into a rhythm as I had to stop at the first shelter to get water followed by my mourning business a bit later.

As I was climbing up Bald MTN, I saw some Trail Magic, SCORE! This time, I was the first to arrive which was nice being on this side of it. I ate a few cookies and chugged up to the bald on top of the mountain. It was Mother's Day today, so I FaceTimed my Mom, the best Mother in the world, with a gorgeous view and to wish her a Happy day. By this time I was about 11 miles, if that, into the hike and it was already after 1p. Time to turn on the burners. 

I hiked hard the rest of the day and didn't stop but once for water and got into Erwin mm 342.1 at around 7:30p. I ended up walking 2 miles into the outskirts of town and stayed at the Best Southern Motel. Don't let the name fool you, this place was DIRTY! 

I grabbed some grub at the local pizza joint and called it a night. Tomorrow, I take my first Zero of the trip and I am stoked!!!!
