Electronically excited molecules with excitation energies below ionization potentials could produce ions by interactions with neighboring molecules through associative ionizations, electron transfers or proton transfer processes. Many important energetics of molecular ionic processes have been derived from the precise controls of excitation energies of parent cluster ions.
