Pretoria, October 8 - The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) has called for a sympathy strike, which may see 25, 000 workers in the ports and railway sectors join in the current protest action. Striking truck drivers demanding a 12 percent wage increase have become increasingly violent over the last two weeks. The latest nine percent staggered offer by the Road Freight Association was rejected by the union. Satawu says port and freight workers will join the protest action on Friday.
