TEDxMSVU speaker Glen Hougan discusses how we think about designing services and products for aging populations in his talk, “Re-imaging design for an aging population”. Glen embarks on a journey through which he shares lessons learned from his “aging suit” and other designed products to demonstrate how not having a good understanding/appreciation of the user can perpetuate ageism in the design process of products and services. Glen Hougan is an Associate Professor in design at NSCAD (Nova Scotia College of Art and Design) University and is involved with Bluezone Design, a design studio focusing on designing for an aging population. Glen’s current research focuses on the issues of designing for dignity and ageism in design. His work in these areas has been covered in the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
