The following is a brief excerpt from a 1970 WSDM air check that contains many of their I. D.'s and a record that reflected it's MOR format in the early 70's.

The station was located in Chicago, Illinois and for a time was known as 'The Station With The Girls' as they had an all-female on-air staff and 'Smack Dab in the Middle of your FM Dial' due to their frequency of 98 FM. It is believed that the call letters is derived from the 'Smack Dab' tag line.

Even though the station changed formats to a rock/jazz format a few years later, they still kept the all-female staff until around 1976. It's believed that Cindy Morgan of Caddyshak and Tron fame was once a DJ there.

I'm tagging in a couple of commercial spots for a local stereo store called MusiCraft, one of them read by one of the stations DJs, Dawn (a. k. a. Connie Szerszen).

BTW, record played here is unknown and was never announced. If anybody knows the title and the artist, I'd really appreciate it!

Sorry, I couldn't find any WSDM related photos to kill the visual time on this video, so enjoy the grab bag of early 70's "stuff".

SMALL 2011 UPDATE: Ms. Szerszen has just published a autobiography called 'Top Rock Girly Rock'. You can find info and some fine and interesting pictures at the following web site: http://www.toprockgirlyjock.com/

SMALL 2016 UPDATE: A larger part of this same aircheck was featured on an old episode of my podcast, The Hour Of Crap. You can hear it here: https://archive.org/details/oddlystupid_yahoo_WSDM
