Rinpoche talks about the sutra 'Meeting of father and son' explaining that the Buddha can manifest in various ways and appearances even as a dog. He continues with the story of Asanga, who meditated many years in a cave to achieve a vision of Buddha Maitreya, but only found him when overwhelmed by compassion for a wounded dog. We need to relate this story to our lives. Because of our karma we are so obscured that we can not see the Buddhas directly. Rinpoche continues by emphasising the importance of generating bodhicitta to purify and collect merits. Compassion is the most important practice. Out of compassion Buddhas even manifest attachment, ignorance or craziness. Rinpoche further elaborates on the Sutra and the conversation of Buddha Shakyamuni with the bodhisattva Meaningful to Behold. He talks about the importance of the guru. Without a guru there is no way to be liberated from samsara, like the river can't be crossed without a boat.
