Hawke and his family were forced to flee their home as the blight (an army of evil, underground creatures called Darkspawn) marched on Fareldon.  Now, with the Darkspawn on their tails, they are desperately searching for a way to safety.  His mother suggests going to Kirkwall, where their family owns an estate.  Bethany, Hawke's sister, is cautious about the idea -- there are many Templars in Kirkwall that would see them harm because of the magic in their bloodline.
