Migrants from developing countries transfer huge sums of money around the world. Each year, they send more than 230 billion euros to their home countries. Without these remittances, many developing countries would lose an important source of capital. We report on an example from El Salvador and the United States. Elmer, Hector, and Dalila Cortez are illegal immigrants in the USA. With the money they earn, they support their family in El Salvador. Today, migrants support whole communities in El Salvador. They help out where their governments canât. A report in collaboration with the United Nations.
