Fairborn Woman Says her Pet Fox was Wrongfully

FAIRBORN -- A Fairborn woman says her pet silver fox was wrongfully euthanized by the city of Fairborn. But city leaders say she should've never had the animal in the first place.

The debate reached a fever pitch at Monday's council meeting.

One year old silver haired Valo had been Chloe Kristensen's pet since birth. Last Sunday Valo got out of his 30 foot enclosure. By Monday he was euthanized.

"I just want to know where that missing step is? Why did it go from confirming he was a pet to being euthanized?" Kristensen asked at council.

Chloe says she has a permit for Valo.

"He does fall under a bigger jurisdiction and my permit does allow me to have him at my address. Which is in Fairborn, Green County," Kristensen explained.

But the Mayor say shes misinformed.

"Apparently there is some confusion on both sides it appears about what she's allowed. But city ordinances do not allow wild animals in the city," Fairborn Mayor Dan Kirkpatrick explained after the meeting.

City officials say the city's contract trapper contacted the Ohio Dept. of Natural Resources before putting the animal down.

"He described it as a fox and they informed him it was a wild animal and to treat it like he would other wild animals. Which was to euthanize it," Kirkpatrick added.

Kristensen's says no one pet, no matter what the breed should be killed without a thorough investigation.

"I have never cried this much over an animal, never loved an animal this much," Kristensen said teary. "I've done everything I can to make sure he has a good life and we'll taken care of. It's just so hard when you've given him everything you possible can and it's still not enough."

Mayor Kirkpatrick has agreed to sit down with Kristensen to take a look at the ordinance.

As of now, there's no intention to change how the city handles wild animals.
