Police said an underage driver smashed her car through a building in south Kansas City Wednesday evening. Officers said they had set up a speed trap on 80th Street and when they caught a driver speeding, she took off. However, the driver couldn't make the turn as she tried to get onto Paseo Boulevard and instead plowed into a building at 80th Street. "The car came screeching across the street, it bounced several times and then entered the building," witness Desmond Nalls told KMBC's Jere Gish. "Boxes and all types of debris fell out. It was like, boom." The sedan entered through the front wall and came out the side. "It was totally amazing -- it was like something off a movie. I swear, I thought it was going to blow up," Nalls said. "I never saw anything this before, it was all movie style, I tell ya." "They were going really fast, you could hear that and screeching, then the crash, then I heard gas hissing," neighbor Leonard Pavlicek said. The crash caused a small gas leak, which was fixed. A similar wreck happened six weeks ago on Easter morning. An SUV plowed into the same building at the same spot. "The same place, the same thing happened exactly -- the car inside the building. Can lightning strike twice? I guess it did," neighbor Dave Register said. Police said the driver is only 14 years old and was apparently driving her sister's car. "I saw scrapes and bruises on her legs, she looked shaken up," Nalls said. Officials said the driver suffered minor injuries. The damaged building contains theater supplies. Gish reported that the owner looked stunned as he arrived and saw the damage. Neighbors said the damage from the Easter crash had just been fixed.
