Welcome to The Ecology Center! What started with an old home on an empty dirt lot is now an ecological oasis. Serving as a model for how our homes can be sustainable and healthy places to live! Visitors can learn how to grow their own food with simple methods like raised beds gardens or more modern methods like aquaponics using fish and veggies in a symbiotic cycle. The landscaping is also edible with fruit trees throughout the property. They harvest rainwater and show you how you can do it too! And they use greywater from the sinks to grow even more food. Waste is decreased by composting, feeding food scraps to chickens (that make eggs!), and feeding worms that make “black gold” for the garden. They even turn food waste into methane to cook with. Interactive pieces are here to help you learn how to conserve resources. Plus, there’s a library to share information about earth friendly living and a "Tools for Change" shop with items to green up your home. Located in urban Southern California, the Ecology Center shows what is possible for people living across the nation. Through action, we can turn homes, workplaces, and communities into vibrant, healthy neighborhoods. Share this video if you want to live more sustainably!
