Eleven foreign nationals who came into this country illegally have been detained following an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Erin district on Tuesday. This follows a video circulating on social media showing what appeared to be persons entering the country illegally at a beach in Erin. The video was brought to the attention of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and resulted in an exercise being launched by Senior Superintendent Adams and Superintendent Basdeo at the Los Iros Beach area. During the exercise, a party of officers from Erin Police Station conducted a search of a hotel where seven male and four female foreign nationals were found and detained. The men, ranging from 31 to 55 years, included five Venezuelans, one Guyanese and one Syrian. The women, ages 18 to 49, were three Venezuelans and one Syrian. The owner of the establishment was also taken into police custody pending further investigations. The foreign nationals have since been handed over to the Immigration Division.
