Update on my busted Akai

Good news everyone, I've spent all afternoon doing a fault diagnosis on my wounded tape recorder, and I've found the problem! The transistor in the power supply needs replacing, that's all. I'm pretty sure when I find a suitable replacement, I can get it working properly again. I'l probably post further updates as time goes on.
