Consumers have more entertainment options now than ever before, which presents both challenges and opportunities for movie theatres. In this session, exhibitors and filmmakers join together to take an honest look at the impact of theatrical exhibition on today’s culture and its influence on the creative process, the importance of diverse content, the potential of under-served audiences, and the ways in which exhibition drives revenue for the industry at large. Sponsored by Ontario Creates Guest Ellis Jacob Ellis Jacob is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Cineplex, Canada’s largest motion picture exhibition company. He also serves as the Chairman of the National Association of Theatre Owners. In 2013 and 2014, Ellis Jacob was awarded the Most Innovative CEO award from Canadian Business Magazine. For his contributions to the entertainment and movie exhibition industry, he received the Order of Canada. Guest Christopher Aronson Christopher Aronson is President of Domestic Distribution for 20th Century Fox where he oversees all domestic theatrical distribution and sale for the United States and Canada. He previously was Executive Vice President and General Sales Manager for Metro–Goldwyn–Mayer. Chris recently served as Chairman of the Will Rogers Motion Pictures Pioneer Foundation, is a member of the Academy’s Executive Branch and a member of the Executives Branch Executive Committee and serves on the board of the Lollipop Children’s Network and Atom Tickets. Guest Helen Estabrook Helen Estabrook is a film and television producer. She has produced films such as Tully, and the upcoming Hugh Jackman film The Front Runner. For her work on Whiplash she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. Currently, she is producer for Hulu’s Golden-–Globe nominated series Casual. Under her banner, A Thousand Ships, she has a television deal with Hulu. Guest Sebastián Lelio Sebastián Lelio was born in Santiago, Chile, and graduated from la Escuela de Cine de Chile. His features The Year of the Tiger (11), Gloria (13), Disobedience (17), and A Fantastic Woman (17), which won an Academy Award for Foreign Language Film, all screened at the Festival. Gloria Bell (18) is his latest film. Guest John Fithian John Fithian is President & CEO of the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), a position he’s held since January 2000.
