May Day in the city of Kharkov (East Ukraine), 2009 That was in Kharkov in 1900 where the very first May Day demo took place in Russian Empire at the time (no, not in Moscow or St-Petersburgh!). The city was one of the most important industrial centers of the Empire, lots of new industrial plants (although most of them were under foreign capital control - mostly British, French, German, Belgian, Dutch capitalists and imperialists) and had numerous, militant working class and socialist groups and parties. And Lenin even wrote a special essay on this event, called "May Day in Kharkov 1900".
