Prof. Ananth is an Indian academician who is currently the head of NPTEL's Project Implementation committee. The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), started by him, is a Government of India sponsored collaborative educational programme. By developing curriculum-based video and web courses the programme aims to enhance the quality of engineering education in India. It is being jointly carried out by 7 IITs and IISc Bangalore. Prof. Ananth served as the Director of Indian Institute of Technology,Madras from 2001 for ten years. He will give a talk on "Future of online education and Massive open online courses (MOOCs)". In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
