For Carina Giorgi, Madagascar was a distant spot on the map. The Uruguayan lives in Rome and works for the International Fund for Agricultural Development.

She visited Madagascar to see what her colleagues there have been doing. Carina Giorgi's journey is the subject of our 3-part series in collaboration with the United Nations. 
In part 1 Carina travels to Madagascar and spends her first night in a small village there. In part 2 she talks about her experiences and presents one of the IFAD projects. In part 3, she leaves Madagascar and reflects on what she has seen. 
Carina Giorgi was shocked by how hard the lives of the farmers are, but impressed by the willingness of the villagers to share with each other the little they have.
