For postdoc student Krister Smith,the trip from America to Germany meant more than a chance to study and work abroad—it was a chance to dig. The California-born researcher goes to work every day at the Messel Pit,an excavation quarry just south of Frankfurt. We catch up with Krister as he tries to uncover answers to questions of evolution and history.
