The Toasters - Weekend In L.A. - San Francisco, Live, 1-30-12, 1st row, Red Devil Lounge. The guy in front of me turned out to be the drummer to The Phenomenauts. Upon recognizing him, Robert Hingley introduced him to the audience and called out to the bar to buy him a drink and put it on his tab. The drummer, Jimmy Boom, got a whiskey and coke, then proceeded to double fist his 2 drinks. Hingley then proceeded to joke with Boom about living in Oakland. :P

At the end of this song, you actually can see Jimmy Boom to my right, wearing a knit cap and drinking his drink.

Since The Phenomenauts are from Oakland, I often see them at local ska shows. The last time was at the SF+Santa Cruz Aggrolites concerts, where the lead singer to Peelander-Z brought two of the Phenomenauts members on stage to play. After seeing the band members so many times in the audience, I figured I'd actually go see the band live, and it just so happened that they were playing 4 days later at a different venue. There, before that show at The Rickshaw Stop, keyboardist Greg Arius saw me looking at the setlist, then went in back and drew me up a setlist to take home. Pretty nice. :P

However, there was no written setlist for this concert or the one in Santa Cruz.. The two had similar setlists so the main difference was in the crowd. Santa Cruz did a lot more dancing; SF did a lot more drinking.

For the Santa Cruz show at the Catalyst, Hingley even went so far as to tell the audience to back up and stop pushing on the women in the front row... not because the guys were hurting them, but because they were ruining their chances to get with them after the show, Robert joked. As for the SF crowd, you can often hear them yelling out things with very slurred speech. Hey, who can blame them? Can't beat the Red Devil Lounge's fancy mixed drink specials... :P
