Kalpana Patowary is an iconic Assamese Bhojpuri Folk Singer from India. She shares her stories and educates us through her soulful renditions. On the contrary to the established regressive perception of Bhojpuri music, because of her unusual voice and outspoken nature, and perhaps, to some, intimidating personality, Kalpana Patowary has attained the status of a cultural icon as she is resurrecting the traditional forms of Bhojpuri music like Bhikhari Thakur's Traditions, Purvi, Birha, Nirgun, Kajri, Phaag, Thumri and other forms.

But of course as people who know her will testify, Kalpana is no quitter. She fought the odds and came up with her eponymously title Bhojpuri Queen.

Since then she's gone from strength to strength, with some playback 'O Re Kaharo' is a classic, Gandi Baat), some Coke Studio (it doesn't get better than 'Baisara Beera' & Birha), collaborations (with Trilok Guru in the album"The Sacred Scriptures of Monikut"), Louis Banks no less currently working on Bhikhari Thakur's classic play Ganga Snan and its spellbinding), appearances on Kashi to Kyoto conclave, her iconic live shows and so much more.

Through out all this, her passion has remained the folk music from her state of Assam & Bihar. 

She's will also be performing out #PaddyFields on October 8 with a set that focuses on Bhojpuri & Assamese music.
