The Queen's birthday New Zealand honours list recognised three Pacific men for their individual contribution to their respective communities. Emeritus professor, Albert Wendt receives the highest honour and becomes a member of the order of NZ or ONZ for his services to the country. Rugby great Tuifa'asisina Bryan Williams becomes a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit and Sione Liava'a received a Queen's Service Medal for services to the Tongan community
