Chennai: Soon after the Madras High Court on Thursday directed the CBI to probe the multi-crore gutkha scam, the order created ripples in Tamil Nadu political circles and evoked multiple reactions.
Speaking to the media, leader of opposition and DMK working president M K Stalin sought the removal of health minister C Vijayabaskar and Director General of Police T K Rajendran.



Pattali Makkal Katchi youth wing leader and former Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss went a step ahead and sought the resignation of the whole cabinet led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.

However, health minister Vijayabaskar denied the charges against him and said, "I am not afraid (of the CBI investigation) since I am clean." Supporting him, fisheries minister D Jayakumar said action can be taken only if the charges are proved true. "Anyone can make allegations against anyone. But they need to be proved beyond doubt," he added.

The multi-crore scam was unearthed when illegal gutkha manufacturing factories were busted on the outskirts of Chennai. The income-tax department, during its search, seized a diary which allegedly had details about huge money paid to higher officials.
