Antal Dorati and the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra made the first recording of Respighi's "Church Windows" ('Vetrate di Chiesa') and even today it remains one of the most spectacular versions on record. Here is the second of the 'Four Impressions for Orchestra,' entitled 'St. Michael Archangel' and depicting the biblical battle in heaven between angels and demons. The recording was made by 'Mercury' in 1954 and has been reissued in a superb transfer on 'Pristine Classical' (PASC194) ... Incidentally, in the 92 years since its first performance in 1927, this work still hasn't had its premiere in the annual summer season of Prom Concerts in London's Royal Albert Hall!
