Weakened Gun Bill Passes MN House Committee

A bill that closes the "gun show loophole", but does not require universal background checks on gun sales passes the Minnesota House Public Safety Committee on a party line vote. Republicans and two Democrats had opposed the background checks, forcing the acceptance of a weaker gun violence prevention bill. The background checks are not dead. They remain in the Senate version of the bill and Representative Michael Paymar has vowed he will try to amend the House version of the bill to include them should it come to a vote before the full House.
