In fact this was the first form of museum building in Germany, built by the Prussian Frederick the Great of Hohenzollern. You run into Michelangelo, Rubens and van Dijk. The paintings are hung in Baroque style, which means in two rows and very close to each other. As with so many of Frederick's buildings, his architect Johann Gottfried Buring was the leading light. Officially designated by UNESCO as "World Heritage Site", this site is to be safeguarded for the future as a testimony to its enduring past. The 26-part tv-series "HERITAGE SITES of the WORLD" is available in Dutch and English. Visit WWW.STOCKSHOT.NL for highres version or broadcast video footage. More culture available!
