Lock down on Alabama dorm lifted after gun threat

Just after 11:00 Sunday night, police set up a perimeter around Tutwiler Hall at the University of Alabama after threats of gun violence. Tutwiler is an all-female dorm housing 966 women. Students waited as University of Alabama Police searched the dorm for about an hour. An email from the University said the search turned up "no weapons or unauthorized persons". The information that lead to the lock down and search was based on rumors and social media posts, not actual witness accounts. The University of Alabama Police said they will continue to investigate to determine the origin of the posts. The Alabama lock down comes just days after the Zell B. Miller Learning Center at the University of Georgia was evacuated for similar social media threats. Friday night, 19-year-old UGA student Ariel Omar Arias was arrested and charged with two counts of Terroristic Threats.
